Laser Skin Resurfacing
The surface of the moon is full of craters and crevices—not exactly how you want your skin to appear! Unfortunately, however, aging, acne, sun damage, and other factors can make your complexion a far cry from smooth. Laser skin resurfacing is a procedure performed by Dr. Lisa J. Learn that can help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well as improve scars, discoloration, and blemishes. It’s one small step for your skin, one giant leap for beauty!
By the Light of the Claro2 Laser
The targeted approach uses short, concentrated beams of light to remove layers of damaged skin, correcting flaws with pinpoint accuracy, safely and effectively. Extreme precision allows Dr. Lisa J. Learn to focus on specific areas so no surrounding tissue is affected. The beam passes over your skin and gently vaporizes the outer layer, called the epidermis, while at the same time, heating up the layers beneath, called the dermis. This stimulates the growth of new cells and boosts collagen production, so as the treated area heals, the new, healthy skin is revealed—smooth as a baby’s bottom!
Love Your Skin to the Moon and Back
This non-invasive, state-of-the-art procedure works wonders on everything from wrinkles and liver spots from aging to birthmarks and damage from the sun. If you have scars from acne or chickenpox, you won’t for long! It can even improve your skin tone and enlarge oil glands, for a fresh, radiant complexion that’s smooth and beautiful.
Laser skin resurfacing performed by Dr. Lisa J. Learn usually takes 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how many areas you are treating. You can improve the entire appearance of your face or just the skin around your lips or eyes, for example. Typically, the Claro2 laser we use—the most innovative technology available— is done comfortably under little or no anesthetic, with minimal pain and virtually no downtime. Following the procedure, bandages will be used to cover and protect your skin. Once 24 hours have passed, you will need to clean the treated tissue four to five times daily, applying petroleum jelly to minimize scabbing. Be sure to follow post-procedure instructions carefully:
If you experience swelling, propping your head up on an extra pillow can help, along with ice and medication. You may also notice an itching or stinging sensation, and after about a week, your skin will become dry and start to peel. Although there may be some discomfort and redness, you can return to your normal activities at any time. The healing process takes a few weeks, and any redness will gradually fade in two to three months.
It is important to protect your skin while it heals—use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Stay out of the sun between 10:00 am and 2 p.m., and when you are out, wear long-sleeved shirts and a wide-brimmed hat. Also, be sure to keep your new, rejuvenated skin moisturized.
You’ll Be Beaming and Beautiful!
Once Dr. Lisa J. Learn feels your skin is healed, you may begin to wear oil-free makeup. Here’s a helpful hint: a green-based makeup can help to neutralize redness.
