Should You Consider a Facelift?

by | Oct 11, 2017

There’s nothing wrong with getting older—we all do it! Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t age gracefully. One of the first and most important locations these signs of aging appear is in the face, and it can cause a lot of stress and worry. Over time, problems like sagging skin, deep creases, and jowls may develop and worsen, making you look older than you are or feel and affecting your self-confidence.

The decision about whether or not to undergo a cosmetic procedure, like a facelift or lower facelift, is one that should be made carefully and deliberately, with the advice of a good plastic surgeon. Still, if you are unhappy with sagging or excess skin, jowls, wrinkles, etc. and know you’re ready to do something about it, it may be time to consider a facelift procedure.

Should You Get A Facelift

But before you get ahead of yourself, ask yourself—did you try non-surgical remedies first? There are lots of ways to improve the appearance of your face and skin. It’s usually worth pursuing these options first before saying yes to plastic surgery. For example, BOTOX injections can work wonders for wrinkles (or even deep creases), particularly in and around the forehead and eyes. At the same time, dermal fillers (for example JUVEDERM) can help combat volume loss around the cheeks and mouth to reduce wrinkles, firm up skin, or even provide fuller-looking lips. Chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, and other options may also be appropriate for producing healthier-looking skin.

Non-surgical options, of course, tend to be less thorough and less permanent than a surgical procedure like a facelift. However, they also have less risk and don’t have downtime or recovery period of surgery. During your initial consultation with Dr. Learn, the two of you will talk about what your goals are, what you’d like your face to look like, and the strengths and weakness of each approach. That way, both you and the doctor can feel comfortable with the chosen treatment—whether surgical, non-surgical, or none at all.

If your desired outcome requires more than what BOTOX or fillers could provide, you have a realistic understanding and expectations about the procedure, and you’re ready and prepared to move forward, then it’s time to take the next steps toward enjoying a healthier, younger, and more youthful appearance!
