Being diagnosed with breast cancer is an emotional time. Fear, anger, sadness, and confusion on what to do can all take over, but you can take comfort in knowing that Dr. Lisa J. Learn is here to help you through the next steps after a mastectomy.

As a female plastic surgeon, Dr. Lisa J. Learn understands how you feel and can calm your concerns and give you strength, confidence, and courage throughout your journey.  A breast reconstruction procedure can not only restore your natural appearance, but just as importantly, your self-esteem. There are two different methods—using implants to recreate your breast(s), or using donated fat and tissue from other areas of your body. We will explain the procedures and help you to decide which is best for you.

Before the surgery, we encourage you to ask any questions you may have so that you are comfortable with your decision and know exactly what to expect. The procedure can take place simultaneously with a mastectomy, or afterward depending on your preference. Either way, preparing is important. Be sure you arrange for a loved one’s help. It’s a good idea to make meals ahead of time and freeze them. Stock up on shirts, lightweight sports bras, and pajamas with front closures. Have extra pillows at the ready to prop yourself up, and make sure you have ice packs to help with pain and swelling. Gather whatever supplies you think you will need and review the aftercare instructions so you will know what to do. Strictly following these instructions is key to a successful recovery process.

We understand that this is a difficult time, but we want you to know that we are here for you. If you’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer, Dr. Lisa J. Learn can help you through the emotional journey. Call (954) 380-8411 for a consultation at our Lauderdale Lakes, FL office today.
