What is BOTOX?

The term “BOTOX” comes from “Botulinum toxin”, a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This amazing neurotoxin has many applications in the world of plastic surgery and procedures. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Botox as an effective way to address and treat several health and skin conditions.

Nonetheless, it’s important to note that pregnant or breastfeeding people, as well as people with specific allergies, might not be good candidates to receive BOTOX treatments. If this applies to you, please consult with Dr, Learn before starting your treatment.

What is BOTOX Used For?

Thanks to its great and proven results, and its overall high safety, Botox is used for a wide range of skin issues, including:

  • Preventing the onset of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Reducing the appearance of crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Enhancing the position of eyebrows
  • Improving overall facial features

What Kind of Results Can I Expect?

The first results can be appreciated just a few hours or days following your first session of BOTOX. The skin that your BOTOX treatment has targeted will gradually appear smoother, firmer, and more rejuvenated. These results last approximately three to six months, which means that a total of around three to four BOTOX injections are often recommended for the first year.

Because of the fantastic results that people enjoy with BOTOX, most of our clients go on with their treatments for years. From the second year onwards, the majority of people will notice good results with just two injections every year.

What is the Treatment Like?

Before starting your BOTOX treatment, it’s paramount that you select a trusted, expert, and professional clinician, like Dr. Learn. Before you begin your first session, we will conduct an initial consultation to get to know you, find out your goals and requirements, and devise a treatment plan that is entirely personalized to your circumstances.

Then, we will schedule your first session of BOTOX treatment, which will begin with Dr. Learn diluting the BOTOX powder in a saline solution, and then injecting it straight into your neuromuscular tissue using a very fine needle. Because the toxin triggers a disruption of the nerves that stimulate muscle contraction, it causes something that’s known as temporary muscle paralysis.

This temporary effect stops the body’s release of acetylcholine, a substance that prevents muscle cells from contracting. By doing so, the BOTOX toxin allows the targeted muscles in the face to become smoother and less rigid. After approximately 24 to 72 hours, the toxin will start taking effect. In rarer cases, people have to wait up to five days before noticing a more youthful complexion.

Why Choose BOTOX?

As we mentioned, the main reason why people choose BOTOX is to reduce or prevent the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. These are the most common facial areas that BOTOX treatments target:

  • Frown lines, also called elevens and glabellar lines: These are the wrinkles between the eyebrows.
  • Crow’s feet: These are the wrinkles around the outer corners of the eyes.
  • Forehead: This region often has horizontal creases.
  • Mouth: This area often displays fine lines around the corners of the mouth.
  • Skin: This part of the face can show the so-called “cobblestone skin.”

It is worth mentioning that since BOTOX is made from bacterium Clostridium botulinum, this neurotoxin can, when ingested, cause botulism. However, in the hands of professionals like Dr. Learn, its uses in the cosmetic and medical fields are very safe.
