Arm Lift
With weight loss or just plain getting older, it’s common for the skin under your upper arm to start sagging and become loose and flabby—not exactly a flattering feature. As a result, it can make you feel self-conscious to bare your arms, and when you live in Florida, that can be a sweaty situation. There’s no need to continue feeling embarrassed. Dr. Lisa J. Learn can perform a procedure called brachioplasty, otherwise known as an arm lift.
Toned in a Tank Top
Unfortunately, droopy under arm skin isn’t something that exercise can help. All the pushups and tricep dips in the world won’t stop the sagging. Dr. Lisa J. Learn to the rescue! An arm lift can remove excess skin and fat, resulting in a firmer more toned-looking upper arm. It can tighten and smooth underlying supportive tissues as well, and is often combined with liposuction for an even slimmer appearance.
There are different levels of the procedure depending on the amount of extra skin needing to be excised and the type of skin you have. A mini brachioplasty can be performed for minor cases. Typically, an incision is made in the arm pit and upper arm, but in extreme cases, they may extend to the elbow. Excess skin and fat is removed and absorbable sutures are put in place below the skin’s surface. This is all done under general anesthesia and with the goal of making scars as inconspicuous as possible.
Sleeveless and Self-Confident
When you can bare your arms without being embarrassed, your self-consciousness will quickly turn to self-confidence! In just a couple weeks you’ll be able to wear something sleeveless and actually want to wave to everyone you can! In the meantime, you may need to wear a compression garment to protect your arms and keep swelling to a minimum.
You can expect some bruising and soreness, and you will likely need medication to alleviate any pain during the healing process. Discomfort should begin to subside within 48 hours after surgery. Plan on sleeping with your arms elevated on some pillows for about two weeks. Avoid any heavy lifting or excessive activity. It’s important to follow care instructions closely for a speedy, successful recovery. Before you know it, you can go ahead and show off those shapely and youthful looking upper arms!
